The Town of Tarboro (population approx. 13,000) is seeking a qualified, motivated, and community-oriented professional to serve as its next Parks & Recreation Director, following the retirement of a long-time employee. This is an excellent opportunity to build on a strong departmental foundation and continue delivering high-quality recreational programs and facilities to the community.
Position Overview
The Parks & Recreation Director performs professional and administrative work directing all operations of the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating athletic programs, community events, and the maintenance and operation of all Town parks and recreational facilities. The Director will supervise and train staff, manage daily operations, and interact regularly with the public while ensuring high levels of customer service and program delivery. This position requires the ability to perform a wide range of administrative and managerial duties and to effectively plan for the successful operation and growth of parks and recreation services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for all parks, facilities, and recreation programs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate athletic and community programming
- Oversee maintenance and improvement of parks and recreational assets
- Supervise, train, and evaluate departmental staff
- Prepare and manage departmental budget and capital projects
- Engage with citizens and community partners to enhance services
Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Recreation Administration, or related field required. Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience preferred. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are necessary. Applicants should have the ability to manage programs, personnel, and facilities effectively. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with acceptable driving record is required. Successful completion of background check and drug screening expected.
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $75,240 – $120,384 (dependent on qualifications)
